About our kawakawa products

Tui and Lark Wellspring wellbeing products feature kawakawa as the key healing ingredient, which is further enhanced with carefully selected natural oils and bases, and essential oils and flowers.  Fragrances of the essential oils in the massage oils and balms are subtle, ensuring their suitability for sensitive skin.

Our Kawakawa Massage Oils can equally be applied liberally to the skin as a moisturising and rejuvenating solution.

Our Kawakawa Balm can be used to heal rashes and abrasions, and applied to sooth and moisten dry, chapped or cracked skin. Effective in healing post-surgery scars.  Also as a lip balm, and to moisturise backs on hands to reverse sun exposure skin damage, etc.

How is kawakawa effective in healing?

University of Auckland researchers have identified more than 60 biologically active compounds, including dopamine, in kawakawa leaves…Kawakawa (Piper excelsum) is a relative of black pepper (Piper nigrum). The family of plants to which they belong, the Piperaceae, is famous for its diverse roles in traditional medicinal and culinary practices from cultures around the world…In rongoā Māori, kawakawa is used in many ways…Pellitorine [the most abundant compound found has a numbing effect and] also has a key role in chemical pathways in the body that reduce inflammation.”  https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/news/2023/01/20/scientists-confirm-kawakawa-s-healing-properties.html
